Philip “Phil” S. Hanrahan 84, passed away at 9:52 am Tuesday April 17, 2012 at his home with his wife and daughter by his side..

 

He was born on August 7, 1927 in Keene, NH, the son of Walter F. and Mary Agnes (Grogan) Hanrahan.

He married Bessie Robb on August 27, 1949, in Ashwillet, NH, and she survives.

He was a salesman in the tape division for Nashua Corporation for 27 years. Phil was an Alton Alderman 2nd  Ward for 29 years, Civil Service Commissioner for 5 years and on the Board of Housing Directors for 1 year, he also was a member of the East End Improvement Association, the Knights of Columbus #460 Third Degree. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton and served as an usher for over 30 years. Phil served his country in World War II in the US Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie, four children, and their spouses: Adele Annes of Wheaton, IL, Susan (Donald) Ullmann of Essex Fells, NJ, Betsy Hanrahan of Northbrook, IL, Michael Hanrahan of Batavia, IL: twelve grandchildren Alexia (David) Ellett, Khari Annes, Evan Annes, Tim Ullmann, Kevin Ullmann, Emily Ullmann, Grant Harkins, Corey Harkins, Brittany Harkins, Kayla Hanrahan, Erin Hanrahan, Patrick Hanrahan and two great graddaughters, Aubrey and Brynn Ellett. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He will be deeply missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parent’s, two brothers, Thomas and Joseph Hanrahan, and one sister,Mary Regan.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Friday April 20, 2012 at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am April 21, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father Tom Cannon OMV officiating.

Burial will be Monday April 23, 2012 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Memorials may be directed to East End Improvement Association or the Knights of Columbus, Council # 460.

Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
