Peter Breitweiser

Peter Ralph Breitweiser, 90 died at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab.  He was born in Delhi, Illinois on December 5, 1920, the son of the late Fred and Lillie Ross Breitweiser.

During his early years, he worked at the Western Cartridge Company.  He joined the Marines and served as a Private during World War II.  Upon returning home, he went to work in the construction industry and retired as 50-year member of Local 218.  In his spare time, he bowled on several leagues, enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and wood working.  He will long be remembered for hosting the family’s traditional Christmas Eve party and the BIG Christmas Tree made only with lights for everyone’s enjoyment while driving up or down the highway during the Christmas season.

He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Emma and Stewart Antrae and Marjorie Beiser; one brother, Herbert Breitweiser, one sister-in-law. Mary Frances Breitweiser and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers; Frank, Dixon, Edward, John and Fred and three sisters; Faye Chappell, Vida Breitweiser and Mary Miller.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Theodore Engelsdorfer officiating.  Interment following at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with Military Graveside Rites by Jerseyville American Legion Post #492

Memorials may be given to Peace United Church of Christ.
