Peter Hackethal Peter L. Hackethal, of Alton, Illinois, entered into eternal life at the age of 89 on October 3, 2017.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margery (nee: Boschert) Hackethal; his son, Andrew Hackethal (wife Juli) of Centralia, Missouri; his daughters Diana Schoenherr (husband James) of Petersburg, Illinois; Elaine Meyer (husband Dale) of Ashland, Illinois; Margaret Williams (husband Kris) of Holiday Shores, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was born in Hartford, Illinois on January 21, 1928 to Joseph and Goldie Hackethal who proceeded him in death as did three sisters, Leona A. Hackethal, Frances M. Buhr, Bulah "Bootsie" Carpenter; and four brothers – Joseph, Leo, John and Cletus.  He is survived by his brother Thomas Hackethal (wife Marilyn) and his sister Goldie “Trink” (husband George) Marshall, all of Edwardsville, Illinois.Pete served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was employed as a supervisor for the U.S. Post Office for thirty years before retiring in 1988.  He was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and later was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He loved fishing, listening to big band music, and dancing.  He was one of the original members of the New Horizon’s Band and played the saxophone in this band for nineteen years. He was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word, and to his family and friends he will always be remembered as “Good ol’ Pete.”Visitation will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 6, 2017 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Father John Luong, O.M.V. as Celebrant.Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.In lieu of flowers, please consider giving donations to the charity of your choice.On-line condolences may be found at http://www.staten-fine.com
