Peggy A. Dennis, 87, passed away at 9:53 am Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
She was born on July 16, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Edgar and Ellen (Vilas) Amundson.
She married Everett V. Dennis in 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He passed away in February 1986.
Peggy was a nurse’s aid at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois for 22 years. She enjoyed yard sales and antiques but most of all she loved being around her family and being at home.
She is survived by her children, Mike Dennis and his companion, Sherry Ross-Mathews of Granite City, Alma Coggins and her companion, Glendell Carter of Nason, IL, Martha Phillipi and her companion, Allen McMorrough of Mt. Vernon and Denise and Craig Welch of Bethalto; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Michael and Dacia, David and Stephanie, Mark and Tonya, Brandi, Adam and Emily; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Blandon of Elk River, MN and Velma “Sonnie” Woratk of CA and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded her in death by her parents, husband, a son, Johnny Dennis, three sisters, Audrey, Mary and Shirley and a daughter-in-law, Glenda Dennis.
Visitation will be from 5 pm until a memorial service at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Newell Funeral Home, 505 E. Main Street, Waltonville, IL 62894.
