Pearl Paul

Pearl E. (Bailey) Paul, age 88, was called home at 8:20 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, with her family in attendance.

She was born on May 22, 1922, in Alton, the 4th child of the late Joseph and Matilda (Ackelberry) Bailey. On August 24, 1940, in St. Charles, MO she married Floyd D. Paul and their five children survive her: Gerald and Joy Paul, Robert Paul, Steven and Bette Paul, Mark and Judy Paul and Karen and David Hickerson.

She considered herself blessed with seven grandchildren: Chris and Stacey Paul, Cindy and Doug Williams, Curt and Mary Beth Paul, Ashley and Matt Terry, Brandon Paul, Aaron and Kim Hickerson and Ryan and Julie Hickerson. Eight great grandchildren: Jenny and Anthony Tuzzo, Justin and Sara Paul, Abby and Ryan Allsman, Kyle, Tyler, Luke and Rachel Williams, Seth Paul, Parker and Melaina Hickerson, and Kaidyn and Carter Hickerson, and two great, great granddaughters: Jordan Tuzzo and Danica Paul.

She is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Erma Bernhard of Fosterburg, Lois Bailey of Oakridge, TN, Schardelle Paul of Denver, CO, and Murreta Bailey of Fairborn, OH, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Pearl was employed by J.C. Penney in the Payroll and Personnel Department for over 20 years, retiring in 1984. The friendships she enjoyed there were long lasting and she spoke of them often.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, George, Ben and Charles Bailey and two sisters, Hazel Case and Mary Everts Subick.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL.

Funeral services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Fosterburg with Pastors Troy Crain and Robert Harris officiating. Burial will follow at the Fosterburg Cemetery. 

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Fosterburg, of which she was a member.
