Paul W. Burney, age 63, of Moro, passed away Friday, September 7th, 2018, after a short battle with cancer with his family by his side.
He was born November 3rd, 1954, in Wood River, to William G. and Bernelda “Nell” (Betts) Burney. He married Deborah Errandi on June 2nd, 1973 at St. Bernard’s in Wood River and she survives.
Paul retired from Olin Brass after 40 years. He enjoyed gardening, music, and is known for never having met a stranger. Paul was a pulled pork master and loved to BBQ anything. He was an avid cyclist, and rode often. Paul attended Holiday Shores Baptist Church with his wife, Debbie and was a believer in Christ. Paul and Debbie were also a host family to many foreign exchange students from around the world for 15 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Deborah; he is survived by his mother, “Nell”; two daughters and son-in-laws, Amie and Brian Slimick of Wood River, and Lisa and Tom Shain of Bethalto; a special niece, Kristy and her husband Anthony Pollo of Gillespie; a brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Betheny Burney of Ellenwood, GA, and their son Kyle Burney; six grandchildren, Isabella Stockton, Austin Slimick, Nathan Slimick, Jonathon Shain, Alayna Shain, and Liam Shain; and a great-grandchild, Brendan Stockton.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 9th, 2018, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
A funeral service will be held Monday, September 10th, 2018 at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rob Lemon officiating.
Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 5A’s.
