Paul M. Waddell, age 88, passed away at 4:38 a.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2011at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born in Shelby Co. IL, on November 15, 1923, son of the late, and Vern & Zella (Hall) Waddell
He married Mary L. (Rice) on February 26, 1946 in Elwin IL. She survives.
Paul service his country in the United States Army, during WWII overseas in Germany and Japan. He was employed for Explorer Pipeline as an operator working there for over 40 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church in East Alton. He enjoyed woodworking and built the families first house himself. Paul loved to visit with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheree L. & Charlie Wood of Bedford, VA and Brenda S. & Tony Sammis of Bethalto; five grandchildren and their spouses, Brian Wood of Bedford, VA, Gina & Chris Bowyer of Bedford, VA, Erik & Michelle Sammis of Marion, AR, Matthew Sammis of Bethalto and Ashley & Shane Simmons of Bethalto; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth L. & Winfred H. “Pee Wee” Waddell and one sister, Marge Camac.
Visitation will be from 4 until time of service at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011at
First United Methodist Church in East Alton, with Pastor Dan Powers will officiate.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Antioch Cemetery in Antioch IL.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto will be in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in East Alton.
