Paul S. Guthrie Sr., 89, passed away January 11, 2024 at 11:25 p.m. at Willow Rose Rehab. and Health Care. He was born December 2, 1934 in Wood River to Purley and Clara May (Corder) Guthrie. He married Sharon Lennox on June 24, 1969 in Alton, IL. They were happily married for 54 years. Paul worked at Laclede Steel in Alton, IL for 42 years, retiring in November 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Reese Epperson, a brother, Guss Guthrie, two sisters, Helen Hyman and Marie Brecker, a special aunt, Carrie Bridgeman, who took him in as a teenager and raised him to the fine man he became, as well as other relatives and friends. Paul is survived by his wife Sharon, his children, Sam Guthrie (Billie) of Roodhouse, IL, Vickie Nilsson of Florissant, MO, Danny Guthrie (Martha) of Anaheim, CA, Evelyn Loy (Mark) of Chesterfield, IL, Tony Epperson of Moberly, MO; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a sister, Joyce Klosser of Torrance City, CA, an especially close cousin, Cynthia Breitweiser (Tom) of Brighton, IL. Paul loved his family, chickens and dogs. He enjoyed hunting and always wanted to be outside. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Bill Pyatt will officiate.
