Patricia Marshall

Jerseyville |

Patricia Gail Marshall, 70, passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Born on January 16, 1955 in Alton, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Robert Elmer and Dorothy Leah (Maple) McBride. As one of 19 children, Pat developed a deep appreciation for faith and family from a young age - two values that would remain at the very center of her life.

Pat pursued her passion for cooking, attending culinary school and later sharing her gift as a chef at Lockhaven Country Club in Godfrey, where she also managed the pub. She continued her culinary journey at Principia College in Elsah, becoming a familiar face and beloved presence to many. Though she later shifted her career path - earning her certification as a medical assistant and working with Gateway Cardiology and ultimately Drs. Busnick, Hudson, Kane & Ziesset - cooking remained her truest form of expression and love.

No matter what she was doing, Pat viewed her accomplishments as blessings from God. She had a way of grounding those around her with her steadfast spirit and her favorite motto: “Worry is like a rocking chair - it doesn’t get you anywhere.” She didn’t waste time on things she couldn't change and instead poured her energy into the things that mattered most.

Her greatest wish - and daily prayer - was for her family to be happy and healthy. She never stopped believing in the power of love, healing, and the grace of God. Throughout her life, and especially as her health began to decline, Pat never wavered in her faith. Her strength, even in the face of hardship, was unshakable. She held tightly to her belief that no matter what came her way, God would see her through. She “kept the faith” - always.

Pat lived life with an infectious joy and zest. She was an accomplished painter and even a published author, proud of her book “An Eye for an Eye.” She found happiness in the simple pleasures: cheering on her beloved Dallas Cowboys, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, scrapbooking and spending quiet moments with a brush in her hand or a song in her heart - often shared with her daughter, Katie.

Of all the things Pat loved, family was her greatest joy. Her bond with her sisters was unwavering, and their “Sisters Club” outings were sacred time - where stories were shared, Christmases planned, and laughter flowed easily. She adored her children, calling them the one thing she got right in this world. And while her words were sincere, those who knew Pat know she got so much more right - her kind heart, her strength, her humility, and her unwavering presence made her a constant source of light in the lives of many. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and their love for her is a testament to the foundation she built.

Surviving are a daughter, Katherine “Katie” McBride of Jerseyville; her son, Mark Marshall and his wife, Angela, of Trenton; six grandchildren, Adam (Kayla), Johnny (Peyton), Russell, Trenton (Kaitlyn), Tyler (Carly) and Mason; five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Cole, Maverick, Hudson and Desmond; four brothers, Harold McBride of Dow, James McBride of Marion, Brian McBride of Alton and Gary Drake of Texas; as well as her seven sisters, Mary Jane Arbogast of Jerseyville, Helen Springer of Jerseyville, Barbara Markle of Alton, Debbie Lane of Alton, Dixie Chappelear of Arkansas, Tammy Morrow of Alton and Phyllis Inlow of Alton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters in infancy, Dorothy and Carol McBride; as well as five brothers, Wayne, Bill, Lloyd and Ed McBride and Ron Drake.

All are invited to join the family in celebrating Pat’s life at a Memorial Visitation from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Following, there will be a Celebration of Life at Beagle at the Junction (formerly Do Drop Inn) in Dow - one of her favorite gathering places.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the Jersey County Salvation Army Food Pantry, in care of the funeral home.

Pat loved deeply, lived joyfully, and left behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering faith.
