Opal Little, 81, died at 12:05 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care Center in Jerseyville after a battle with brain cancer.
She was born in White Hall on May 29, 1930, the youngest of nine children born to the late Harold & Eva Kirchner.
Opal married James Little Sr. in November of 1947 in Roodhouse, and together they have shared 63 years. The two of them began their life in Greene County, and moved from East Alton to the country of Fieldon in 1963 where they enjoyed raising their two sons in a rural environment, gardening and birdwatching.
She formerly worked at Nesco Manufacturing in Jacksonville, and retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Factory in Alton, but prided herself on being a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, James Little Sr. of Fieldon; two sons & daughters in law, James & Kathy Little Jr. of Collinsville, and George & Lisa Little of Fieldon; four grandsons, Shaun, Luke, Matthew, and Daniel; three great grandchildren, Cameron, Ginnie & Jillian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Virginia "Ginnie" Little; four brothers and four sisters.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service to honor her life at 11 a.m. Friday at the Jones Cemetery in rural White Hall.
