O. Elaine Barnett, age 90 of Alton died at 3:26 PM on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Mulberry Grove on July 5, 1925 the daughter of the late Dorwin and Mae (Dewey) Miller. Elaine married Louis L. “Hap” Barnett in Alton on September 11, 1945 and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1978. She met Hap while working at Western Cartridge Co. during WWII and after his death she became a receptionist in her daughter’s dental office. Elaine was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton where she was very active with the homebound ministry and the senior adult choir. Surviving are her daughter and son in law; Dr. Lana Barnett Edwards and Dr. Steve Edwards of Alton, a son and daughter in law; Larry and Caren Barnett of Minot, North Dakota, one grandson; Reiss Barnett and his wife Keylee of Bismarck, North Dakota, three great grandchildren; Savannah, Keller and Elliot Barnett and one sister; Dolores Miller of Webster Groves, MO. She was preceded in death by a grandson; Eric Barnett, a sister; Betty J. Miller and a favorite brother in law; Sherman Barnett. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday with Rev. Wade Dobson and Rev. Dr. Rick Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey and memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church homebound ministry.
