Norman Paul Kallal, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 6th, surrounded by his loving family.
Norman was born to Vincent and Cecilia (Abeln) Kallal on July 12, 1937, in Batchtown, Il. He married Mary Elizabeth Geers at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton, and in June 2021, they celebrated 65 years of marriage. Known as a hard worker and a man of faith, Norman “Pork Chop” was a retired rigger for Laclede Steel in Alton, Il, a proud member of The Knights of Columbus, and a life-long member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. But his hugs, words of wisdom, and big heart were what his family will remember most.
He is survived by his wife; children: Regina (Charles) Heitzig, Charles (Lisa) Kallal of McKinney, TX, Catherine (Aaron) Fitzgerald, Dennis (Deborah) Kallal, Ann (Darrell) Story, Kelly (Jay) Maloney of Seattle, WA, and his daughter-in-law: Patricia Kallal; his eighteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Also surviving are his siblings: Frederick Kallal, Marcella (Mike) Reynolds, Gilbert (Georgia) Kallal, Philip (Donna) Kallal, and his sister-in-law: Martha “Dugan” Graham. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his son: Michael “Popeye” Kallal, brother: William Kallal and his wife Janet, sister-in-law: Alice Kallal, brother-in-law: David Graham, brother-in-law: S/Sgt. Charles P. Geers, and his in-laws: Charles and Margaret Geers
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9th, 2021 from 4 pm-7 pm at Alexander Funeral Home in Jerseyville. It will begin with a prayer service at 3:30 pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place on December 10, 2021, at 10 am at Holy Ghost Church in Jerseyville. Norman’s grandson, Father Paul Kallal, and Father Hyland Smith are co-celebrating the Mass. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Westwoods Cemetery in Fieldon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School or Jersey County Home Health.
