Norma Fischer

Norma Lee Fischer, 89, passed away at 4:50 pm Sunday, March 27, 2011 at her son’s home in Bunker Hill on her birthday.

She was born on March 27, 1922 in Granite City, IL, the daughter of William and Lucy (Prewitt) West. 

She married Harry “Lloyd” Fischer on December 1, 1945 in St. Louis, MO.  He passed away on February 16, 2006.

Norma was a part time secretary with the Collinsville School District.  She was a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Collinsville.  She volunteered for the Collinsville Historical Museum, in the Library.  Her and her husband were very supportive of it and held a deep place for the Museum in their hearts.  She was a member of the Lake View Acres Garden Club for over 20 years.  She enjoyed painting and was very good at it.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Mary Pat Fischer of Bunker Hill; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Tim Alexander of Aurora, CO; four grandchildren, Aaron Fischer, Julie and her spouse Jason Viviano, Lindsey Alexander and Emily Alexander; two great grandchildren, Christina and Annabel and two nephews, Gary West of Florissant, MO and Craig West of MO. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Norman C. Fischer, who was killed in action in Viet Nam and a brother, Bill West. 

Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 Noon Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Graveside services will follow at 12:45 pm at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Edwardsville. 

Memorials may be given to Villa Rose Activity Department.
