Norma Jean Hillmer, 91, of Ozark, Missouri, and formerly of Madison, Illinois passed away at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 13, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
She was born February 11, 1931, in Madison, Illinois, a daughter of the late Earl and Hazel Hinson. She married John F. “Hank” Hillmer Sr. on December 29, 1961, and he passed away on January 27, 2018.
She was a graduate of McKendree College and had worked as a teacher with the Madison School District for several years. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, active with the Eight and Forty Group, and loved playing bingo. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son, Keith Hillmer of Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren, Keith Hillmer Jr., Jonathon Hillmer, Jase Hillmer, Reece Hillmer, Sabrina Gunsler, and Dominic Walter; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice Whitsell; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jan Juhnke; a son, John Hillmer Jr.; a granddaughter, Kassie Clark; four brothers and a sister.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
