Norma J. Phillips, 93, passed away at 3:33 am on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at River Crossing in Alton. She was born on June 12, 1928, in Sullivan, Kentucky, the daughter of the late William and Columbia (Hedgepath) Dilback. She married Earl Phillips on May 5, 1959, in Shawneetown, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2019. Survivors include her children: Gary Phillips and his companion: Matt Whitlock of Hartford, Illinois, Kenneth Phillips, and his wife: Lisa of Roxana, Illinois, Brenda Dunkerson and her husband: Gary of Salem, Kentucky, Pam Champion and her husband: Kenny of Marion, Kentucky, Bill Damron and his wife: Vonna of Salem, two daughters in law: Wanda Damron of Salem, Kentucky, Debbie Damron of Salem, Kentucky, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Norma was employed at Young’s Department Store in Alton and then at the Parkway Restaurant in Wood River prior to going to work for the Kmart Corporation where she was the assistant manager in the kitchen and deli department at the Wood River store. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: Joseph Damron, Jimmy Damron, a brother: Jerry Dilback, two sisters: Winnona Crumley and Fannie B. Roberson.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Pastor Chris Damron will officiate.
Due to the current CDC guidelines, face masks are required.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
