Norma Carroll

Norma J. Carroll, age 93 of Keyesport, IL, died Monday, October 04, 2021, at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, IL. 

She was born on Thursday, July 26, 1928, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Julius and Nora (nee Izatt) Graul. 

In 1950, she married Joseph A. Poelker, who passed away in 1972. 

In 1976, she married Emmett J. Carroll, who passed away in 2018. 

Former member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Carlyle, IL. 

Norma was born in Springfield, IL. When she was young her family moved to Mascoutah, IL, where she grew up. She was a 1946 graduate of Mascoutah High School. She was a stay-at-home mom after her first marriage in 1950. She owned and operated Poelker Alterations, in Mascoutah, this allowed her to be home and close to her children. Her husband Joe passed away in 1972. She re-married Emmett Carroll in 1976. Together they lived in Keyesport, IL, and Arcadia, FL. They traveled to Africa, Spain, Hawaii, and all but two of the U.S. States. They also enjoyed going dancing at many different places, playing cards, gambling on casino boats, and playing bingo. 

Survivors include: Son - Brian B. (Barbara) Poelker, Effingham, IL; Daughter - Susan P. (Todd) Cisna, Effingham, IL; Daughter - Carolyn J. (Bob) Greathouse, House Springs, MO; Son - Wayne J. Poelker, Jamestown, IL; Daughter - Sarah J. Poelker, Mascoutah, IL; Step Child - Joseph L. (Judith) Carroll, Mt. Vernon, IL; Step Child - Ann M. Carroll, Chicago, IL; Step Child - Donald G. (Trautie Parrie) Carroll, Red Lodge, MT; Grandchildren - Ten; Great Grandchildren - Eleven. 

She was preceded in death by: Father - Julius P. Graul; Mother - Nora M. (nee Izatt) Graul; First Husband - Joseph A. Poelker - Married 6/24/1950; Died 9/27/1972; Second Husband - Emmett J. Carroll - Married 10/09/1976; Died 9/13/2018; Son - Mark A. Poelker - Died 1979; Brother - Julius P. Graul; Sister - Bonnie J. Condon. 

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. 

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marine, IL. 

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marine, IL, Rev. Fr. Paul Habing, Pastor, officiating. 

Interment will be at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery in Marine, IL. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Cemetery, a charity of the donor's choice or in lieu of flowers - do an act of kindness.
