Norma Fiedler

Norma L. Fiedler, 96, of Bethalto, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Villas of Holly Brook with her daughter by her side.  

She was born in Batchtown, IL, on November 7, 1928, the daughter of Fred and Freda (Franke) Boede. Norma married Orville Henry Fiedler on April 3, 1948, in Zion Lutheran Church in Batchtown. He preceded her in death on November 4, 2021.

Norma was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.  She and her husband were among the few parents instrumental in founding Zion Lutherans Schools' first kindergarten class.  They participated in church actives and enjoyed preparing and serving many years of sausage suppers.  Norma worked as a secretary at Alton Memorial Hospital until she became a full time mother and homemaker.  She enjoyed traveling and many senior trips after retirement.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her much joy.  

Survivors include her two daughters, Pamela (Gene) Henke of Nolensville, TN, and Gayla (David) Broadway of St. Charles, MO; five grandchildren, Rachel (Tony) Tompkins, Jessica (Mitchell) Wilkerson, Kristin (Brian) Meyer, Keith (Alyssa) Broadway, and Kyle (Kristin) Broadway; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Beckett, Alaina, Ellis and Declan Wilkerson; Skylar and Bryce Tompkins; Clara Meyers; Caroline, Ada, Henry and Millie Broadway; and  Eliza and Owen Broadway.  

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Doris Shinn and Dorothy Rowald; and a brother, Harold Boede.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. Pastor Brandon Metcalf will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with final arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church/ School and/or BJC Hospice.
