Norbert “Norb” Eugene Wittman, 78, passed away at 2:45 pm on Monday, August 20, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born on the family farm in Godfrey, IL on August 2, 1934, the son of the late Peter J. and Kunigunda (Wendle) Wittman.
He married Martha DiMaio on October 23, 1954 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton, IL. She survives.
Norb was a veteran in the US Army, serving from 1961 to 1963. He owned Wittman’s Mobile Station along with Lindbergh Park Tavern in Alton. Later he worked as a Teamster and retired as a Plant Manager at Kienstra Concrete, Inc in 1997. He was previously a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Alton and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Tony Bridges of Godfrey; one son and a daughter-in-law, Mike and Roxanne Wittman of Alton; four grandchildren, Adam and Rachael Bridges of Godfrey, Dr. Nicholas Wittman and Hannah Wittman both of St. Louis, MO; a sister, Catherine Gray of Godfrey and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Raymond, Joseph, Carl, Leo, Elmer (Bill), and Walter (Bud) Wittman.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am Friday, August 24, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Pastor Steve Pohlman will be officiating.
Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey, where Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1308 Alton Ritual Team.
