Nora Copeland

Nora L. Copeland, 90, formerly of South Roxana, passed away 6:45 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at her son's residence following an extended illness.

Born March 20, 1924 in Pocahontas, IL, she was the daughter of Leo and Ada Mae (Mowell) Phillips.

After raising her 10 children, she worked as a cashier at the Walmart in Glen Carbon for 15 years before retiring in 1999.

She married Elva 'Carl' Stevens, who preceded in death and later married Leslie W. Copeland, who died August 20, 1980.

Surviving are five sons, William Stevens of Webb City, MO, Issac (Melanie) Stevens of Battle Ground, WA, James (Sue) Copeland of Godfrey, Walter Copeland (Tammy) of East Alton, Leslie W., Jr. "Boone" (Nona) Copeland of Madison, AL; five daughters, Helen Forgy of Troy, Violet Wofford of Steeleville, MO, Shirleen (Bob) Maroon of Carrollton, Alice (James) Colley of Rosewood Heights, Thersia Sweet of Glen Carbon; 28 grandchildren; over 20 great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and a grandson, Wayne Stevens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday.  Rev. Don Long, Jr. will officiate.

Burial will follow in Short Cemetery in Cottage Hills.
