Nelson Miller

Nelson “Heidi” Brueggemann Miller, 85, passed away at 3:15 a.m., Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hardin.

He was born on June 17, 1938 in Fieldon, Illinois and was the son of the late Ruby and Helen (Brueggemann) Miller.

He graduated with the Class of 1956 from Jersey Community High School and served our country honorably with the United States Marine Corp. from 1955 until 1963. 

He married Nancy "Sue" Stark March 2, 1963 and together he and Sue were the parents of three daughters. They shared 44 years together. 

Heidi worked full time on the family farm, and in his younger years was also employed at various factories in the Alton area.

He spent the majority of his working career as President of Jersey County Construction and JCC Rental and Sales. In addition to his many developments throughout the area, he was also responsible for bringing about Solar Energy in Jersey County. 

Always seeking ways to give back to others, he remained actively involved in the local Veteran community in Jersey County, serving as past Commander of the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492, as well as serving as part of the Tri-County Honor Guard. In addition, he belonged to Ainad Shriners Temple and served as a past Ambassador for the organization; was past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #954; a former member of the Moose Lodge; President of the Illinois Rural Rental Association and served as a member of the Jersey County Board and Jersey County Democratic Committee. 

Surviving are three daughters, Mimi Johnson of Jerseyville; Jennifer (Jeff) Shourd of Springfield and Tammy Miller of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, Megan Watson, Brett Woelfel, Sadie and Clay Shourd; and a great-grandson, Wes Schultz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Helen Miller; as well as two sisters, Joann “Jody” Zimmerman and Glenda Stowers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Graveside services will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. 

The family also invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life beginning at 4 p.m., Thursday at Lake Westside in Jerseyville.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children, in care of the funeral home.
