Nellie Fay Stefani, 91, passed away at 3:34 am Monday, January 24, 2011 at Bethalto Care Center in Bethalto.
She was born on August 13, 1919 in Hardin, IL, the daughter of Charles L. and Effie (Hill) Swan.
She married James W. Cannon on November 7, 1936 in Alton. He passed away on May 1, 1949. She then married Reno L. Stefani on December 1, 1951. He passed away on August 19, 1985.
Nellie was a homemaker most of her life. She took care of other people all her life and most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqualin and Donald Eaton of Alton, Pamela and Tom Lawson of Medora and Ange McVey of Bethalto; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Bradley and Connie Eaton, Rodney and Connie Eaton, Sean and Maureen Butler, Darren Eaton and his fiancée Amy, Colin McVey and his fiancée Briana, Shawn and Sissey McVey, Heather McVey and her fiancé Jeremy, Eric Lawson, Shawn and Crystal Lawson, Brian and Wendy Lawson and Darren Lawson and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her siblings, Bill Swan, Annie Neikert, Rose Bond, Jim Swan, Elizabeth Figge, Fred Swan, Leola Hutchens, Paul Edward Swan and Johnnie Swan.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 26, 2011 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Don Long officiating.
Burial will follow at Woodland Hills Cemetery in Wood River.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
