Myrtle H. Grant, 91, passed away at 3:00 am, June 24, 2012 at the home of her daughter.
She was born in Wood River, IL on February 8, 1921 the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Caroline (Neff) Friederich.
On August 20, 1949 she married Gaylen R. Grant in Wood River at St. Bernards. He preceded her in death in October 23, 1989.
Before children Myrtle worked at her father’s grocery store “Friederich”s in Wood River, IL. She also worked at Shell Oil and had fond memories of working at First National Bank of Alton. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church for 60 years and was involved in the RCIA Program, and the Arm’s of Love. She enjoyed swimming, biking, and anything outdoors. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Michael) Redd of Alton and Linda (Chris) Potts of Prairie Village, KS; three sons, William (Mary) Grant of Godfrey, Richard (Holly) Grant of Arlington Heights, and Joseph (Fay) Grant of Hickory, NC; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard (Lucille) Friederich of Granite City, James (Patricia) Friederich of Rosewood Heights, and Eugene (Carmelita) Friederich of Clearwater, FL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, and one brother, Leo Friederich.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm, Thursday June 28, 2012 at the Elias Kallal and Schaff Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Funeral service will be at 10 am, Friday June 29, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father Jim Walther OMV officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Masses and Marquette Catholic High School Capital Fund.
The family would like to thank St. Anthony’s Hospice and Phyllis, Melissa and Joy from St. Anthony’s Adult Day Service for all the care they provided.
