Myrln C. Johnson - Meffert

Myrln C. Johnson - Meffert, 88, passed away at 12:01am on Friday, February 14, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton.  She was born on June 11, 1925, in Moro, Illinois the daughter of the late Henry and Jeanne Mae (Bird) Cooper.  She married Harold E. Johnson on June 8, 1947 in Moro and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1992.  She then married Delmar W. Meffert on October 28, 2000, in Alton and he preceded her in death on August 26, 2012.  Survivors include her two brothers and sisters in law: Willis and Jean Cooper of Monroe, North Carolina, Leslie and Mary Cooper of Dorsey, her nephews and nieces: Alan Ambuehl and his wife: Linda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Debra Meffert of Los Angeles, California, Tracy Swanson and her husband: Mark of Charlotte, North Carolina, Peggy Haukap and her husband: Randy of Alhambra, Illinois, Donna Munie and her husband: David of Highland, Illinois, Marjorie Smith and her husband: Jim of Edwardsville, Phillip Cooper and his wife: Loralynn of Dorsey, David Cooper of Moro, Keith Cooper of North Carolina, Brad Cooper and his wife: Lisa of New Jersey, Glenn Cooper and his wife: Debbie of Dorsey, Tim Cooper and his wife: Janine of Dorsey, Cindy Cooper of Dorsey, Gregg Cooper and his wife: Sherri of Jerseyville, Gail Nelson and her husband: Tim of Bunker Hill, Beverly Loflin and her husband: Glen of Staunton, Nancy Cooper of Wood River, Darrel Cooper and his wife: Denise of Troy, Cheryl Heepke and her husband: Bill of Hamel, Terry Cooper of Moro, Lois Stratmann of Staunton, Sharon Reanu of Alton, Ada Kercher and her husband: Robert of Brighton, Ruby Berghoff and her husband: Charles of Godfrey, several great nieces, great nephews, great – great nieces, great – great nephews

A graduate of Edwardsville High School, she was formerly employed at Western Cartridge Company and Scheffel and Company.  She also worked at Fabric Plus in Wood River.  She and her husband Harold were big square dancers and traveled all across the country square dancing.  She even made their own square dancing clothes.  She was an accomplished seamstress.  She loved needlepointing and crafting.  She won many awards for the quilts that she made.  She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey. 

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Ray Cooper, Orville Cooper, and Roy Cooper.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, February, 16, 2014, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.  Visitation will continue from 10am until time of funeral services at 11am on Monday, February 17, 2014, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey.  Rev. David Stratmann will officiate.  Burial will be at Emmaus Lutheran Cemetery in Dorsey. 

Memorials are suggested to Emmaus Lutheran Church Memorial Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
