Monte Gene Slanker, 87, died at 5:04 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family who dearly loved him. He was born July 28, 1925 in Alton the son of the late Chris Slanker and Pearl (Hendricks) Slanker.
He retired from A.O. Sm ith Corporation. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, a member of the Jerseyville Masonic Lodge and Ainad Shrine Temple. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. On May 24, 1946 in Alton he married Lucille C. McElroy and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2005.
He is survived by three daughters: Bonnie (Bob) Wilson of Brighton, Montica (Larry) Kuethe of Brighton and Louetta (Bart) McClain of Nashville, TN, ten grandchildren: Tiffany Dunham, Jaime Ditterline, Nicholas Wilson, Brandi Fisher, LouAnn Fisher, Megan Julian, Laryn Kuethe, Tonya Massalone, Morgan Chappell and Anna K. McClain, nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two daughters: Kathy Mason and Linda Kay Slanker, one great-granddaughter: Amy Michelle Zimmerman, one brother: Gerald Slanker and one sister: Erma Clark.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 with the Reverend Steve Rice to officiate at GENT Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.
