Monsignor Mank

Monsignor Virgil W. Mank, born December 25, 1939 in New Baden, Illinois, the son of William C. and Louise A. (Weirich) Mank, died at Mt. Carmel West Skilled Nursing Facility in O’Fallon, MO at 1 pm June 28, 2016 surrounded by his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Louis A Mank, two brothers-in-law, William Wadlow and Richard Gier.Msgr. Mank was ordained a Priest at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield, IL by Bishop William A. O’Connor on May 22, 1965.  His more than 50 years of priestly service in the diocese of Springfield began as Associate Pastor of St. Agnes Parish in Springfield (1965-1969) and St. Elizabeth Parish in Granite City (1969-1970).  In 1970 he served for 5 years as the Chaplain of the Newman Community at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.  He returned as Associate Pastor to S.S. Peter & Paul Parish in Collinsville (1975-1977) and Co-Administrator at St. Mary, Taylorville, and at St. Rita in Kincaid (1977-1979). He was named Pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption, St. Marie, and St. Valentine, The Bend (1979-1981).  He served as Pastor a S. Cecelia, Glen Carbon (1981-1988), St. Ambrose, Godfrey, (1988-2004) and Pastor of St. Jerome, Troy, (2004-2009). Msgr. Mank was appointed Dean of the Alton Deanery in 1987 until his retirement in 2009.  He served as Parochial Administrator of the Diocese from October 3^rd to December 19, 1999. On February 19, 2002 he received the honor as Chaplain to his Holiness (Monsignor) by St. John Paul II.Msgr. Mank is survived by two sisters, Darlene Wadlow of Wentzville, MO and Mary Geir of Fenton, MO; three brothers, Billy (Connie) Mank of Godfrey, IL, James (Lynne) Mank of Bethalto, IL Timothy (Michelle) Mank of Waxhaw, NC and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday July 1, 2016 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 820 W. Homer Adams Parkway, Godfrey, IL 62035 and will continue from 10:30 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am Saturday July 2, 2016 with Fr. Steve Pohlman and Fr. Dan Bergbower, celebrants. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Parish in Godfrey, IL or to The Commission for the Care of Infirm and Retired Priest, Diocese of Springfield in Illinois 1615 W.
