L. Mildred Hinkle, 96, loving mother and grandmother and foster parent to 17 foster children, passed away at 3:28 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at VIP Manor in Wood River.
Born Aug. 15, 1914 in Zalma, Mo., she was the daughter of Robert Houston and Elizabeth Ann (Lemons) Walker, both now deceased.
She married Calvin Hensley Hinkle on Dec. 19, 1933. He passed away July 7, 1994.
Surviving are five sons and three daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Jo Hinkle of Wood River, Dennis and Vilas Hinkle of The Villages, Fla., Robert and Sharon Hinkle of Mesa, Ariz., and William and David Hinkle, both of Wood River; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where Rev. Richard Newcom will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19.
Interment will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
Memorials may be made to Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a member.
