Michael S. Bailey, 56, died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Born December 22, 1954 in Alton he was the son of Dale Bailey of Godfrey and the late Irene P. (Baehler) Bailey. Michael was a custodian in the Alton School System from 1984 until retiring in 2004. He especially enjoyed working among the children in the school system. He was a people person, the ultimate neighbor and never met a stranger. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping, hunting, fishing and gardening and was a jack of all trades. Most recently he had been employed with Home Depot in Glen Carbon. On July 6, 1991 in Alton, he married Marchia Clearwater. She survives. Also surviving is his father and mother, Dale and Nancy Bailey of Godfrey, three children, Travis Bailey and his fiancé Miranda Yancey of Alton, Lois Anderson and her husband Scott of Wentzville, MO, and Adam Tucker of Alton, one granddaughter, Emma Anderson, and three sisters, Debbie Haggerty and her husband Mark of Godfrey, Michelle McGiffen of Ocala, FL, and Catherine Diddle and her husband Tom of Rector, Ark. A celebration of life will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Community Christian Church in Alton. Pastor Dave Burger will officiate. Burial will be private at Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alton Educational Foundation. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
