Michael Duncan

Michael F. Duncan, 74, passed away on January 25, 2021, at John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis from acute myeloid leukemia after a brief illness.

He was born in Alton on February 14, 1946 the son of Francis W. and Mildred E. (Owens) Duncan.

Mike graduated from Wood River High School in 1964 and from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1973, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970, with tours of duty in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.

Mr. Duncan spent 30 years as a Corporate Credit Manager in the St. Louis area before retiring in 2002.

Mike is survived by his father, Francis Duncan, of East Alton; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Wayne Savageau of Newton; two nephews, Daniel Savageau of Chesterfield, MO, and David Savageau and his wife, Congcong, of Carmel, IN; and one great-nephew, William Savageau of Carmel, IN.

Mike will be remembered fondly by his family and friends for his kind heart, his biting humor, and his love for truth and justice.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Duncan; paternal grandparents, John and Jessie (Dilliard) Duncan; and maternal grandparents, Herbert and Janet (Wood) Owens.

Per his wishes, the body will be cremated, with burial at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Due to present COVID-19 restrictions, no visitation will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor's choice.
