Michael Laroy Eyer, age 84, born March 14, 1940 in Olney, Ill., passed away August 9, 2024 at his home in O’Fallon, Ill.
After graduating from Richland County High School, Olney in 1958, Mike went to the University of Illinois to study engineering. Before finishing college, Mike enlisted to join the Air Force where he met his wife Julie (nee Hoehne), and they were married for 48 years. Throughout their years of military service, they moved across the country multiple times, from North Carolina to Kansas, until Mike retired from Scott AFB in 1982. During his years in the Air Force, he was deployed to Thailand, Greece, Italy, and Turkey. He enjoyed traveling with the military and fulfilling his missions. In his retirement years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles through the back-roads, loved sharing his knowledge about refrigeration with others, growing vegetables and fruits in his garden. He enjoyed volunteering for VFW Post 805 and working on home improvement projects with his brothers.
Mike and his late wife, Julie, were part of the original residents in the neighborhood, where he was well-liked and respected by the neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Blanche, nee King, Eyer; and his wife Julie Eyer, and sisters Marlene Schnepper and Margret "Meg" Yeranos.
Surviving are his siblings Lila (Russ) Burrows of Windsor, Colo., Donna Eyer of Olney, Ill., Glenn (Gwenn) Eyer of Jacksonville, Ill., and Sam (Melody) Eyer of Olney; and dear friend and caregiver David Johnson and his family; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 9-11 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2024, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O’Fallon. Funeral to begin at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at O’Fallon City Cemetery, O’Fallon, Ill.
