Michael D. "Mike" McClellan, 59, passed away at 5:07pm on Friday, July 22, 2011, in the emergency room at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 11, 1952, in Portsmouth, Virginia the son of the late Roy J. and Gladys M. (Nichols) McClellan. He married Marilyn J. Law on January 3, 1987, in Bethalto, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter and son in law: Debra and Richard Kelley of Roxana, Illinois, one son: Tim McClellan and his fiance': Hope Guy of Wood River, six grandchildren: Paul Kirksey, Amy O'Brien and her husband: Franke, Kelsi McClellan, Michaela McClellan, Douglas McClellan, T.J. McClellan, one great grandson: Evan O'Brien, three sisters and brothers in law: Roylene and Robert Cole of Gales Ferry, Connecticut, Gayle and Jack Menge of Wood River, Kathy Schenato of High Ridge, Missouri, one brother and sister in law: Jay and Kim McClellan of Wood River, one brother in law and sister in law: James and Sandra Bryant of Centralia, Illinois, one sister in law and brother in law: Juli and George Hatcher of Centralia, Illinois, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was formerly employed as a custodian at South Roxana Elementary School. He was a former member of the South Roxana Dad's Club. He loved to antique, the St. Louis Cardinals, bowling, and his grandkids. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was formerly active in the Wood River Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law and sister in law: John R. and Janice Bryant.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the funeral home. Rev. Tim Naylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana with full military honors by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308 of Alton.
