Meredith Zumwalt, 83, went home to be with Jesus at 6:08 pm, Saturday, June 18, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. She was born December 21, 1932, the daughter of William and Frances (Eads) Gilbert.She married Charles Zumwalt on May 18, 1952, in Wood River.  He survives.Meredith, along with her husband, owned and operated the 7-11 stores in Wood River, East Alton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wood River. She was an avid gardener; she never met a plant she couldn’t revive. She was a blessing to all who knew her, someone who would sit and talk with you for hours, a family oriented woman who was friend to many. She was a true follower of Christ, dedicated to helping others. She will be greatly missed.In addition to her husband, Charles, she is survived by four children and their spouses, Gregory and JoAnn Zumwalt of Brighton, Mark and Beth Ann Zumwalt of Godfrey, Diane and Robert Buttry of Edwardsville, Linda King and Chuck Hatcher of East Alton; 8 grandchildren Nathaniel Zumwalt, Travis Zumwalt, Wayne and Lindsay Zumwalt, Katelynn and Blake Schrumpf, Jess and Lanie Buttry, Brett Buttry, Nicholas and Amanda King, Eric and Brittany King, Justin Hatcher; eight great grandchildren, Hope, Dax, Paisley, Landon, Heather, Bradley, Penelope, Drake; and one loving, caring brother Gerald Gilbert of Pembroke Pines, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral service will be at 10 am on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the funeral home.Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to First Methodist Church in Wood River.An online condolence and guest book may be found at .
