Melinda Jones

Brighton |

Melinda “Mindy” Sue Jones, age 66, of Brighton, IL, passed away at 11:05 a.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

She was born on January 28, 1955, in East Alton, IL, the daughter of the late Arthur and Twila (Ingold) Hanfelder.

Mindy married Paul M. Jones on November 16, 1973, in Edwardsville. They shared almost 37 years of marriage until his death on October 10, 2010.

She is survived by a daughter, Leslie Jones of Brighton, IL; son, Todd Jones and his wife, Mary of Worden, IL; daughter, Natalie Jones and her significant other, Wes Goheen of Brighton, IL; and daughter, Addie Jones-Wilkinson and her husband, Robert, of Brighton, IL; 12 grandchildren, Joseph Jones, Jesse Holt, Scarlett Jones-Iler, Samuel Jones, Olivia Jones, Vivian Jones, Alaina Jones, Matthew Wilkinson, Cody Wilkinson, Miranda Wilkinson, Ryleigh Jones, and Paul Jones; 3 great-grandchildren, Korbyn Jones, Kane Jones, and Lily Jones, several nieces and nephews that she adored, many other children who looked up to her and called her grandma; 3 sisters, Cindy Parker of Edwardsville, IL, Sandy Turck and her husband, Bob of Granite City, IL; Candy Hanfelder of Edwardsville, IL; stepmother, Shirley Hanfelder; and mother in law, Irene Trevino

Mindy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Frank Hanfelder; and son-in-law, James Iler.

Mindy was a homemaker most of her life, tending to the needs of her family. She welcomed her cousin Regina Bracht into her home in 2004 after her parents passed, to care for her. She had a way of giving her full attention to everyone she spoke to, making them feel as important as she knew they were. She was possibly the most generous person in the world, always worrying that people were doing without. She'd give and do without herself to make sure others didn't have to. She was also a great storyteller. While engaging a child with a story, they held on to every word, staring intently. She could make you terrified, cry out of sympathy or laugh until your cheeks hurt. She loved flowers and feeding birds, enjoying them from the window. She would take the time to walk around with her grandchildren, pointing out the different beautiful flowers and the proper name of each one.

She always went the extra mile to make every holiday or family gathering special. She made Easter Baskets for children she knew wouldn't receive one and would secretly deliver them. At Christmas time, she always had gifts bought and wrapped, ready for anyone she wasn't expecting. She welcomed any and all, and everyone was to be treated equally. It was important to her that no one felt left out.

She will be remembered by so many that loved her, and by the many lives she impacted in a positive way, whether they knew her personally or not. She truly was a remarkable woman.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. A memorial service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Joyce Anders presiding. Interment will take place at St. Boniface Cemetery in Edwardsville.
