Melinda Fay Kern, nee Brem, 62, of O’Fallon, IL, born Friday, October 19, 1962, in San Francisco, CA, passed away surrounded by family, Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at her residence in O’Fallon, IL.
She was preceded in death by her:
- Beloved mother: Anna Fay Brem, nee Brawley
- Dear aunts and uncles
Surviving are her:
- High school sweetheart and husband of 41 years: Larry M. Kern of O’Fallon, IL
- Daughter: Lara Kern of O’Fallon, IL
- Son: Adam (Emily) Kern
- Numerous dear cousins and close friends
- Devoted rescue puppy: Milton
- Countless gnomes that “magically” started appearing in her home after her cancer diagnosis in June of 2022.
To Melinda, her family was the center of the universe. Much more than a homemaker, Melinda poured her heart and soul into caring for her friends, family, and strangers alike. Her talents and creativity as a seamstress were unparalleled, and she shared her heartfelt passion for sewing and crafting with many in the community during her 20+ years of working at Jackman’s Fabrics in Fairview Heights. Her legacy will live on through the countless people she taught how to sew, knit, and create.
May her battle with cancer inspire others to pursue preventative screenings, and speak with their doctors before it’s too late to deliver successful treatment.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Gateway 4 Paws where she adopted Milton who brought her so much joy, HSHS Home Care Hospice who provided so much end of life care for her, or the Make a Wish Foundation so that others can live out their dreams.
Visitation: Visitation from 10:00am – 12:00pm, Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm, Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fairview Heights, IL.
