Maxine Korte, age 71, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday July 31, 2010 at her residence.
She was born on March 7, 1939 in Jonesboro, Arkansas the daughter of George and Wanda (Sloas) Hackert.
She married Frederick (Fred) H. Korte on October 15, 1956 in Yuma, AR, and had the marriage vows blessed in the Catholic Church in Long Beach, CA
She worked many years as a beautician and at the Alton Shop n Save and was owner and operator of The Candy Pantry in Alton for many years until her retirement. Maxine was an avid camper, loved to cook, quilting and loved her family dearly and was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, seven children; four sons and their spouses Mark J. (Kathleen) Korte of Godfrey, Patrick A (Lisa) Korte of Godfrey, Timothy J. (Deborah) Korte of Long Beach, MS, Anthony S. Korte of Maryland Heights, MO; three daughters and their spouses Teresa M. (the late Rodger Averbeck) Korte-Averbeck of Godfrey, Kathryn A. (James) Heffington of Jerseyville, Rose E. Price of Alton; eighteen grandchildren Melisa Alexander, Joseph Korte, Daniel Korte, Steven Korte, Andrew Patrick Korte, Meghan Korte, Leah Korte, Thomas Korte, Andrew Korte, Erin Korte, Christina Herr, Jennifer Desmond, Michael Averbeck, Douglas Beiser, Matthew Beiser, Justin Price, Nicholas Price, Jacob Price and thirteen great grandchildren.
Per her wishes she donated her body to science to the St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date to celebrate and honor her life at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton.
Memorial may be made to BJC Hospice Program or to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
