Maxine E. Camp, age 99, of Maryville, IL, passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Cambridge House in Maryville, IL. Maxine was born on July 12, 1917 in Winchester, IL, a daughter of the late Richard and Blanche (Sturgeon) Mitchell.

In 1932, Maxine married Leonard M. Bess in Hillview, IL and Leonard passed away in 1980. In 1983, Maxine married C.L. Camp in Phoenix, AZ and C.L. passed away in 1994. Maxine was known for her cooking and baking delicious pies. She had worked as a cook at many restaurants throughout the years. After many years of hard work, Maxine decided to open her own restaurant in Modesto, IL, naming it Maxine’s Country Kitchen. She enjoyed embroidery, making ceramics and participating in all of the activities at Cambridge House. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she adored. Maxine will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Maxine was preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Pierce and Patricia Lamb; and by three grandsons, Michael Vesci, Richard Frazier and Larry Frazier.

She is survived by her loving children, Leonard (Audrey) Bess of El Cajon, CA, Donna Frazier of Summersville, MO, Shirley Ridenhour of Granite City, IL, Linda (Tony) Vesci of Maryville, IL, Carol (Jon) Hasty of Highland, IL and Danny (Michelle) Bess of Salem, IL; dear son-in-law, Randy Lamb of FL; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, private graveside services will be held at West Cemetery in Thayer, Illinois.

Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society or the Cambridge House Activities Fund and may be accepted at the funeral home.
