Maurice “Moose” F. Coatney, age 72, passed away at 8:40 pm Saturday, August 11, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on September 18, 1939 in Alton, and grew up in Bunker Hill, the son of Kenneth and Hulda (Knoche) Coatney.
Maurice married the former Dolores F. Logan on June 21, 1968 in Alton. She survives.
He was an electrician for Olin Corp for 42 years retiring in 2002. Maurice served our country in the US Army from 1957 to 1960. He enjoyed time at his cabin on the river. Moose was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and experimenting in the kitchen.
He is survived by his wife, and six children and their spouses, Jeff Coatney of Portland, OR, Reneigh DeBoer (Menno) of St. Louis, Ken Coatney of Cleveland, OH, John Gwillim of St. Charles, Sharon Gwillim of Alton, and Susan Yost (David) of Alton; thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister, Kathleen Dubbelde.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and their spouses; Norman and Sharon Coatney, and Richard and Pauline Coatney
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm, at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, Il. Funeral Service will be at 10 am, on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill.
Memorials may be directed to the Treehouse Wildlife Center in Dow, Il.
