Bethalto | Thursday, May 9 2013
Another Angel entered Heaven. Maureen Koen began her new life in Heaven at 9:15 p.m. Thurs. May 9, 2013 after a yearlong battle with cancer. She passed away quietly at home, with her family by her side. She was known to many friends as Maureen, to many of the area young people as Mom and to the biking community as Speed Bump. But to all that knew her, she was the smiling face that only saw the good in everyone she met.
She was born Sept. 30, 1948 to Jesse and Eileen (Madison) Lankford of Edwardsville, IL. On January 3, 1966, she married her High School sweetheart, Jim and they enjoyed over 49 years together. He survives. She started riding behind her husband on his Harley in 1963 and over the years they traveled all over the countryside on two wheels. She was a life member of the Harley Owners Group, a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 1131 of Alton and a Charter member and First Lady of the Dream Weavers Motorcycle Club.
Her love for her puppy, “Sissy” was only surpassed by her love for her children. She ran a Day Care out of her home for many years and quite often spent most of her earnings on the children she cared for. Her home was always happy and her daughter’s friends loved to spend time there.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Michelle & Brian Osborn and Keegin Koen and a grandson, Kevin Osborn, all of Bethalto; a sister and brother-in-law, Coleen & Carl Jones of North Dakota; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Ann Koen and a sister, Nadine Lankford.
Visitation will be 2- 6 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 13 with Mark Thomas officiating. Her last ride will be taken to her place of burial at Valley View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to BJC Hospice (618-463-7100).
