Mary Phelps, 66, passed away at 6:00 pm Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Christian Hospital North East in St. Louis, MO.
She was born on July 14, 1945 in Roxana IL, the daughter of Arvil and Mary Oveta (Anderson) Pickering.
She married Arthur “Art” E. Phelps on June 14, 1969 in Roxana, IL. He survives.
Mary was a homemaker most of her life. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Roxana. She enjoyed bowling and playing the piano.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Dave Phelps of Wood River, Greg Phelps and his fiancé’ Christi Brower of Moro and Tim and Nicki Phelps of East Alton; six grandchildren, Brittany, Brendan, Connor, Corbin, Addison and Colin; a brother, John and Jae Pickering of East Alton; a sister, Marti Pickering-Major of Wood River; a sister-in-law and her husband, Arlene and James Thomas of Florence, KY and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Roy Gibbs officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Roxana or First Baptist Church of East Alton.
