Mary Madeline Bruntjen, 91, died at 11:59 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Health Center. Born March 30, 1921 in Harford, IL, she was the daughter of Isaac and Bess (Blanton) Hampton. She graduated from Girard High School and was the past president of the Bethalto Volunteer Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary. She retired as a supervisor from the Alton State Mental Hospital and attended the Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto in years past. She was the first resident at the Fountains IV. In March 1941, she married Herman Melvin Bruntjen. He preceded her in death on January 27, 1972. Surviving are four daughters, Sharon K. Curtis (John) of Warrick, Maryland, Gloria Pearce of Litchfield, IL, Linda Ann Winegar (Don) of Sonoma, CA, and Shelley Perez (Albert) of Godfrey, and a twin brother, Scott H. Bruntjen of Rosewood Heights, 10 grandchildren; Brett Curtis, Dawn Wright, Beth Helton, Gregory Pearce, Jennifer Kinney, Matthew Bruntjen, twins, Jacob and Jackie Bruntjen, Manuel S. Perez, and Allison Cummins, one brother, Don B. Hampton of Decatur, IL, and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Longman, two brothers, Kenneth and Dale Hampton, and two sisters, Helen Ridder, and Jean Tibbs. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
