Mary Loy

Jerseyville |

Mary Helen (Bock) Loy, 89, died Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

She was born on November 28, 1934, in rural Madison County, the youngest of five children born to Fred William Bock and Eleanor Mary (Schmoeller) Hermes. Mary grew up in Godfrey and Brighton and resided in the Godfrey-Alton area before moving to Jerseyville in 1975. She resided in the Jersey, Greene, Macoupin and Madison County areas for most of her life, also briefly near Bozeman, Mont., and finally in Bunker Hill, Ill. with her daughter and son-in-law before her care began at Liberty Village of Jerseyville/Jerseyville Manor’s Memory Lane.

While raising her children, Mary was a highly successful Avon representative in the Alton and Godfrey area before the family moved to Jerseyville. She was then employed for 10 years as a certified dietary aide at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville and later served another 10 years as a dietary aide at OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center in Alton before retiring in 1999. After retirement, Mary spent a few years as a bus monitor aide with the Southwestern School District, a job she often said was “the most rewarding job she ever had.”

Mary and Frank Edward Loy were married on Sept. 16, 1995, at First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville and enjoyed over 16 years of marriage before he passed in March 2012.

She and her first husband, Charles Daniel Crockett, also deceased, were the parents of nine children. Surviving are daughters Melissa (Kevin) Meske of Bunker Hill, Ill.; Jill Delp of Jerseyville, Ill.; and Cathy Island of Dallas, Texas; sons William (Tina) Crockett of Centralia, Mo.; Alan Crockett of Alton, Ill.; David Crockett of Austin, Texas; and Daniel (Katie) Crockett of Carlinville, Ill.; as well as 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Brenda (Richard) Link of Moro, Ill. also survives.
In addition to her parents and spouses, preceding her in death were two daughters, Rebecca Susan Crockett and Sandra Kay (Crockett) Seagraves; a grandson, Steven “Mikie” Gaither; two brothers, Frederick “Fritz” Bock and Emil Bock, and two sisters, Jessie Froebel and Betty Wright.

A Celebration of Life will be hosted by the family from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492.

Memorials may be designated in Mary’s name to an organization close to her heart known as Center Pole, to the Alzheimer's Association St. Louis Chapter, or to Jerseyville Manor in support of their memory care unit’s activity fund.

The family would like to thank the countless number of caregivers and medical staff at Jersey Community Hospital, Alton Multispecialists and Alton Memorial Hospital for their ongoing support and expert care over the years and in her final days. A very heartfelt, special level of deep and never-ending gratitude is also extended to the compassionate caregivers at Jerseyville Manor’s Memory Lane for providing Mom with all the love, care and respect given over the last five years as well as for the multitude of friendships made during her time there.

Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
