Mary Lou “Peanut” Johnson, passed away at 3:20 am Thursday, January 3, 2013 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on September 3, 1935 in Alton, IL, the daughter of the late Gregory and Margaret (Newman) McClintock.
She married Robert J. Johnson on June 25, 1955 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2010.
Mary Lou co-owned Johnson’s Corner and was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She was a life masters in bridge, enjoyed yard work, loved Christmas, water aerobics and was a silent volunteer for numerous organizations but what she enjoyed the most was being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne & Chris Peipert of Godfrey, Jacqueline & Mark Cain of Godfrey, Judy & Chris Durr of Alton, Jane & Jim Strebel of Godfrey, and Julie & Ethan Basler of Godfrey; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie & Cathy Johnson of Godfrey; fourteen grandchildren, Wendie Peipert, Nick (Kendall) Cain, Tony (Katie) Cain, David (Jen) Strebel, Abbie (Dustin) Hodge, Matt Cain, Jason Peipert, Monica (Jeff) Hardin, Savanna, Jett and Posy Durr, Alex Basler, Nash and Noah Johnson; seven great grandchildren, Audrey & Caroline Cain, Evan Dugger, Max and Maddie Strebel, Corbin and Austin Hodge; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Jack Vollmer of Florida, one brother, Jim McClintock, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kleinschnittger of Godfrey and Ilse McClintock of Wood River. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Bill McClintock, one sister-in-law, Kathy McClintock, one brother-in-law, John Kleinschnittger and one grandson, Gregory Peipert.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday January 4, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday January 5, 2013 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton with celebrant Rev. Delix Michel S.S.L.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
