Mary Martin

Mary Lee Martin, age 92 of Alton died at 12:45 PM on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis.  She was born on November 12, 1925 in Elsinore, Mo the daughter of the late Tony and Lela (Berry) Wells.  Mary began her career as a substitute teacher in the Granite City school system and retired in 1979 as activity therapist at the Alton Mental Health Center.  Over the years she enjoyed travelling, gardening, reading, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family.  On September 26, 1948 she married Charles Martin and he preceded her in death on December 24, 2006.  She is survived by three children; Bruce Martin (Debbie) of Trenton, FL, Susan Dona (Richard) of Alton, Barbara Runion of Godfrey, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by a son in law; Gary Runion and a  brother; Paul Wells.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 until funeral time at 1:00 PM at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with Rev.
