Mary Hillery, 92, died at 8:06 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2010 at The Fountains of Troy in Troy, IL.
Born June 3, 1918 in Dwight, IL, she was the daughter of Harry and Myrtle (Anderson) Giles. She was a member of the Brown Street Baptist Church where she was an Awana leader for 25 years. She was involved in Child Evangelism Fellowship in Galesburg and Alton. On June 28, 1947 in Bloomington, IL, she married James M. Hillery. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2008.
Surviving is a daughter, Janet Kauffman and her husband Hillis of Battle Creek, MI; one son, Jim Hillery and his wife Nancy of Maryville, IL; five grandchildren: Jason Hillery and wife Amy of Godfrey, Justin Kauffman and wife Amanda of Battle Creek, MI; Aaron Kauffman of Mundelein, IL; Melissa Hillery Walden and husband Nick of Maryville, and Matt Hillery of Maryville; two great grandchildren, Alexa Hillery of Godfrey and Erin Hillery of Godfrey; and one sister, Shirley Neal of Bloomington, IL. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Dale Giles.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Reverend David Burman and Reverend Bob Brown will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Awana Program at Brown Street Baptist Church or to Disabled American Veterans.
