Mary P. Fennell, 91, passed away at 11:12 pm on Sunday, December 3, 2023, in Godfrey, with her family by her side.
She was born on April 25, 1932, in Cadiz, KY, to Rev. Thomas and Annie Ruth (Baker) Marquess.
She married Billie Fennell on August 16, 1957, in Wood River, IL. He survives.
Mary was a member of East Cadiz Baptist Church in Cadiz, KY. She worked as a LPN at Blu Fountain Nursing Home until retiring on December 24, 1995.
Mary was characterized as neat, clean, and organized. She enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers. Mary had an eye for fashion and loved clothes. She was an avid reader and also took great pride in decorating her home. Mary had a love of animals; especially puppies, including Bichon Frises, and her poodle, Katy. Above all, Mary's biggest joy was her family and spending time with them.
Mary is survived by her children, Karen (David) Welborn of Brighton, IL, Michael ( Barbara) Bridges of Tulsa, OK, Gary Bridges of Staunton, IL, William L (Kayo) Fennell of Kyoto, Japan, and Malinda Strasen of Edwardsville, IL; sisters, Bonnie Hairfield of KY and Donna (Franklin) May of KY, fourteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Anne Fennell, sisters and brothers-in-law, Naomi (Gilbert) Clark, Joyce (James) Taylor, Nina Betty Marquess, and James Harfield.
Visitation will be 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 12:00 pm on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Pastor Sonny Renken will officiate.
Burial will follow at Shipman Cemetery.
