Mary Etta Jones, 85, died at 2:25 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born December 30, 1923 in Eldred, IL, she was the daughter of Paul and Hattie (Badman) Eldred.
She was a self-employed beautician for Eunice Smith Nursing Home and later in life she was a senior companion. She married Maynard Eugene Jones on May 2, 1953 in White Hall, IL. They raised their family in Godfrey, IL. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1978.
Surviving are three sons; Michael Jones of Doniphan, MO, Maynard Jones and his fiancé Marie Ruebel of Hazelwood, MO, and Max Jones and his wife Wendy of Alton, and a daughter, Marilyn Metzger and her husband Joseph of St. Charles, MO, nine grandchildren; Mark Jones, Melissa Jones, Maynard Jones Jr., Matthew Jones, Logan Jones, Eric Abbott, Grant Jones, Alexandria Metzger, Jenna Metzger, three great grandchildren; KiAira Jones, Malliyah Jones, and Keestan Johnson, two brothers; Ward Eldred of White Hall, IL and Stuart (Ruby Ann) Eldred of Springfield, IL.
She was preceded in death by three sisters; Ruth Eldred as an infant, Doris Chaney, and Hazel Gillespie and an infant grandson, Taylor Jones.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009. Reverend Steve Rice will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.
