Mary Lahey

Mary Ellen Lahey, 74,  died at 6:10 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after several years of declining health.Mary was born on Oct. 23, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo., one of seven children born to the late Benjamin C. & Dorothy (Fleming) Lahey.Mary was a lifelong resident of Jerseyville, and was a devout member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.Her dedication was also evident in her service to the State of Illinois where she worked as a caseworker for the Jerseyville office of the Department of Human Service for 50 years retiring in December 2005.She was also fiercely devoted to her family, and is survived by a brother & sister in law, Ben & Connie Lahey of Bethalto; a sister & brother in law, Carol & Joe Nord of Carrollton; a sister in law, Linda Lahey of Jerseyville;  and although never having children of her own, Mary showered her many nieces and nephews with her love.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald, Thomas, Richard & John Lahey.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to either the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville or to Masses.
