Mary Jean Brooks, age 72, formerly of University City, MO., and had resided most of her life in O’Fallon, MO., passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at her Son’s home in Granite City, IL, where she was currently living. Mary was born on October 13, 1952, in University City, MO, a daughter of the late Albert and Irene C. (Levendowski) Hauswirth.
Mary will be remembered as a loving Wife, Mom, Sister, Nana, GreatNana, Aunt and Friend. On June 20, 1975, Mary Jean Hauswirth married Herman Lee Brooks, the love of her life in St. Louis, MO., and Herman passed away on January 25, 2018. They were married over 40 years when Butch passed.
Mary started her career as a licensed cosmetologist in Missouri. Over the years she enjoyed working at different beauty shops throughout the Saint Louis and O’Fallon, MO., area. Mary did hair until she couldn’t stand any longer and switched to Call Center, Customer Service roles. Over the years she also helped Butch operate his Concrete businesses. She was a former member of Assumption Catholic Church in O’Fallon, MO., until she moved to Granite City, IL. Mary then became a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City.
She enjoyed playing every type of bingo imaginable, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Mary loved a family game of Dominoes, a Family dinner, Church Festivals, Holiday celebrations and just loved life, she loved to laugh and have a good time. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving children, Joe Brooks of Granite City, IL, Jennifer Brooks of Maryland Heights, MO.
In celebration of her life, a memorial gathering will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.
