Mary “Bert” Elliott, 91, died at 4:42 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at her home in Alton. Born April 30, 1920 in Charleston, MO, she was the daughter of Thomas and Muriel (Leach) Sands. She worked for Brown Shoe Company, a cook for Midtown Restaurant and retired as a cook for Southern Towing Company. She loved to cook and bake. Surviving is a daughter, Regina Medley of Alton, three grandchildren, Tina Marie Laseter of Salem, Oregon, Deanna Elliott of St. Louis, MO, and Andrea Curlovic of Alton, five great grandchildren, Tyler and Darian Stevenson of Alton, and Tyson, Dustin, and Mason Laseter all of Salem, Oregon, and one sister, Minnie Pearl Quertermous of Cobden, IL. She was preceded in death by three sons, Gilbert Lee Elliott, Robert Dale Chambness, and James Chester Elliott. A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
