Martha Elagene “Ellie” Curtis, age 88, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, at Integrity Health Care in Godfrey.She was born April 5, 1928, in Omaha, IL, the daughter of David R. and Ora (Blackard) Lewis. She married James R. Curtis in 1967, in Alton, and he preceded her in death.Ellie had retired from Owen-Illinois Glass after 38 years working as a selector. Mrs. Curtis was a member of Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton. She was known as a very hard worker. She had helped people for 14 years, caring for the elderly with in home care. Ellie loved her family. She will be remembered as a character, who was generous, brave, and independent.She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Beverly Jean and Kim Greene of Brighton; a son and his wife, Kelly Vern and Marilyn Angel of Belleville; two grandchildren, Kevin Angel and Jimmy Greene; a sister, Julie Pater of Texas; and many other relatives; and her good friend, Faye Goheen.In addition to her husband, James; she is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Genevieve Cope; two brothers, T.P. Lewis and William Lewis; and a brother-in-law, John Pater.Visitation will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 10:00 am until the time of funeral service at Noon, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.Burial will take place in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brown Street Baptist Church.Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home of Alton is in charge of arrangements.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com and www.facebook/eliaskallalandschaaf.com.
