Marlene Sue Toppe, 89, died at 12:20 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Alton Memorial Rehab and Therapy. She was born March 10, 1935 in Urbana, IL the daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth (Wilson) Toppe. She graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and worked for 35 years as an art teacher in the Alton school district. She taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels during her tenure. Surviving are two nephews, Gary Boyd of Mt. Washinton, KY, Scott Boyd (Gayle) of Shipman, IL and her friend and caretaker, Joanne Lenhardt of Alton. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Boyd. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Donna Massey will officiate. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
